 NOTE: the two polygons in the collection are overlapping so I guess it
 could make sense for topology builder to fail.

 I confirm JTS would also fail when dropping the geometrycollection input
 check:
 Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0"
 com.vividsolutions.jts.geom.TopologyException: side location conflict [
 (3.0, 4.0, NaN) ]
