[geotk] Limitation of opening only one instance of shape file

Hi,I am developing GIS application on top of netbeans platform. I found that Geotoolkit does not allow opening of already opened shp file.Is it possible to :
 1. load multiple instances of shapefiles inside editor panels. 
2. titling of a map so that each tile may be refreshed/zoomed-in/out independent of one another.
Is there a way to achieve this.
