Regarding GRASS as a "toy" GIS. In my view the only difference between the GRASS "toy" and the rest of the options is 1) The color glossies distributed by a sales staff and 2) the price. See any of the various comparison articles and reviews. GIS world does an annual review. GRASS always looks pretty good!!
