Hi everyone,
I am new to grass. I downloaded sun4 binaries from ftp server. I did
everything as the in the installing binry version says.
 we have two suns
  SPARCstation10 (sunOS4.1.3 OpenWindows 3.0) 32M mem - rockola
  SPARCstation10 (sunOS4.1.3 OpenWindows 3.0) 64M mem - bubba
and a juke box which is mounted on rockola. I also mounted bubba on rockola.
  my filsystem is like this,
rockola# df
Filesystem kbytes used avail capacity Mounted on
/dev/sd0a 15487 8998 4941 65% /
/dev/sd0g 177007 152428 6879 96% /usr
/dev/sd0h 165471 90122 58802 61% /home

bubba% df

rockola:/optical 2097144 0 2097144 0% /optical

GRASS binaries are reside in /optical/level0/grass which is in juke box.
-----------------------------------------------
now my 1st problem is I am able to run grass on bubba. when I try grass
on rockola it give me the follwing message,

<E021> Read disk error on file: lock, #2362 (table #0)pid 1146: killed due to swap problems in exec: I/O error mapping pages.
-----------------------------------------------
2nd problem: when I try d.mon and select x0 monitor on bubba it give me the
following message,
> x0
Sorry, </optical/level0/grass/dev/fifo.1a> not available
Have GRASS adminstrator check etc/monitorcap file
Can't stat /optical/level0/grass/dev/fifo.1a
Problem selecting x0. Will try once more
Can't stat /optical/level0/grass/dev/fifo.1a
------------------------------------------------
my 3rd problem: I also download source code and used (cat src.---) cmd as it was in the readme file I get the error:
-cpio Out of phase -get help. --and in the src dir I have
bubba% ls
? dist += len;? if (dist >= hc
printf(" standard variance of y= %12.4c

I think I am missing the src.graden directory.
--------------------------------------------------
I hope somebody could help me to solve these problems.
I also want to know is there any beginner's mannual.

I got some suggestions:

>As far as your first two problems, is the path to GRASS identical on
>the two machines? Also, I presume the file system is mounted as
>read+write on both machines?

I have the filesystem as read+write on both machine.
But I edit GIS.sh an echo the path I got the following:

rockola% grass4.1
/optical/level0/grass/bin:/optical/level0/grass/scripts:/optical/level0/grass/garden/bin:.:/home/kesavan:/home/kesavan/bin:/usr/openwin/bin/xview:/usr/openwin/demo:/usr/openwin/bin:/usr/local:/usr/ucb:/usr/bin:/usr/etc:/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin/X11:/usr/amass/bin

/optical/level0/grass/etc/lock /usr2/bubba/kesavan/.gislock 10470

I just don't get it. Is it a memmory porblem?

I did try this suggestion it doesn't work.
