[GRASS5] NVIZ....any help?

I was triying to visualize with NVIZ the elevation.dem file in the
spearfish data set, but when invoking the program i get the following
error...

I got grass from the source files...i installed all the dependencies and
i dont got any error in the compiling procedure...so in think all its
ok...but NVIZ doesn want to start....any tips?
My system is Slackware 8 (xfree86 4.1) in a intel PIII 550-256 RAM...
