[GRASS5] s.to.rast question

Does the s.to.rast write a temporary file somewhere to check on the
progress??  I am working with a large file and am wondering if it is
still running properly or not.  I let it run overnight last night, and
came into find it still running, and started again this morning about
0900 and it continues to run at this time (1110).
