You would either have to install glibc 2.2 (RH6.2 uses glibc 2.1), or
obtain a binary package which was intended for RH6.2 (or another
distribution which uses glibc 2.1).

Programs which were compiled for RH7.x will almost never work on
RH6.x, due to the different version of glibc.

Hmm. If this is the package from grass.itc.it, i.e.

http://grass.itc.it/grass5/binary/linux/grass5.0.0pre3_i686-pc-linux-gnu_bin.tar.gz

then the README (which claims that it requires glibc 2.1) is
incorrect.
