[GRASS5] keeping Label after "break line"

All,

does anyone knows how to keep (store) the label of a polygno after we do a 
break line. for instance: assume I have a polygno A and I want to split it 
into 2 new polygnos B and C. Then,  I want to assign the label of polygno A 
to B and create new label for C. 

I have seen some discution about this on the archives (July 2002 - 
http://intevation.de/rt/webrt?serial_num=1177&display=History) about a patch 
that could help resolve this problem. Is there any thing newer been done 
about this? Does the patch works?
