I see what you mean with r.in.poly.
Can r.in.poly take single xy pairs? That is, can you do this...

10,20
= 1 type1
A
30,50
= 1 type1
A
100,60
= 1 type1
A
20,20
= 2 type2
A
20,21
= 2 type2
A
20,22
= 2 type2
If so, this is another way to do what I'm wanting an ABM controlling GRASS
to be able to do.
