[GRASS-dev] GUI platforms

David,

The latte sounded so good that I went off and got one...

It is good to get this discussion into the open because there have been
repeatedly voiced concerns that a better (i.e., more usable) GUI and cleaner
code would somehow lead to the loss of characteristics that make GRASS so
flexible and extensible.

This is simply not the case, at least not the way that I envision it, nor
Glynn, Trevor, or others working on the interface.

There is absolutely no reason why GRASS cannot have a better GUI than any
other spatial technology out there and still retain the ease and flexibility
of customization that has made it so useful for such a wide variety of
tasks. At the same time, if we can make GRASS available to the many people
who use Windows, it will be an important service to them and expand the
number of people who can contribute to making this such a good project. You
are a very active GRASS user and important contributor to the lists. If we
can convince you of this, hopefully it will convince others.

Cheers,
Michael
