BTW, the change to little circles from "X"s in gis.m are very nice for
point data, but can be a bit deceptive for centroids.

e.g. a coastline with lots of tiny offshore islands along the coast, the
circle symbols are bigger than the islands and the islands get
"idealized".

- is there a way in gis.m to paint the centroids differently than
points? (keep them as "X"s)

failing that,

- is there a way in gis.m to disable centroid drawing by default?
