Here a Spearfish test of separating "elevation.10m" (FP) into
two classes:

g.region rast=elevation.10m
i.group group=elev sub=elev in=elevation.10m
d.mon x0

# digitize 1 area in the low altitude area NW, another one in the
# high altitude area in the south:
r.digit out=train bg="d.rast aspect"
i.gensigset train group=elev sub=elev sig=elev

# the interesting thing is that i.smap works with a single
# band as it does segmentation:
i.smap group=elev sub=elev sig=elev out=elev_smap

d.his i=aspect h=elev_smap
-> fairly good separation. NULL areas are (as we know) not
  recognized.
