Not at all - the PROJ code is quite simple as GSHHS data has no datum and 
the amount of PROJ-related code can be reduced a few lines further in 6.x 
by using GPJ_get_equivalent_latlong() instead of pj_latlong_from_proj(), 
as hinted at in the CVS commit comments.
