 YEA!!!

 I just updated from svn, patched, and compiled. It works great. I tried it
 on 1000 points from the SC demo data set. Before, I had to kill it after
 several minutes and over a Gb of bad data. This took a second or two and
 worked perfectly. I posted a PNG of the output.

 Thanks very much for sticking with it and getting this blocker fixed! I'm
 changing this to fixed. Please backport to 6.5 and 7.
