 how about for a shell script like r.in.onearth?

 I take it Xcode is installed? (not sure what else is needed build-wise,
 but I'm guessing you already have it.. but does GRASS know where to look
 for it?)

 Is there anything installed in $GISBASE/include/* ?

 Perhaps the above comes because it doesn't understand the _() gettext
 macros?
 (missing glocale.h)
