I managed to compile it too, thanks to your configuration file (I have no
idea what did the trick).
I have so far tried only  wxPython 2.8, this runs OK. I had the problem
with toolboxes but it seems that compiling inside GRASS session created the
xml files properly, but compiling outside fails. You can try if you have
the same issue, but if you want to test it, don't forget that you have to
remove the files from distribution before testing (I run make clean in the
wxPython directory and remove the whole wxPython directory in
distribution). I have some problems with compiling
r.viewshed, r.terraflow and ps.map but I didn't try the workaround you
suggested. So still some issues but it looks better than before.

wxWidgets seems to have some problems with Maverick so I agree we should
stay with wxPython 2.8. But it doesn't mean we should not test 2.9 at least
on other platforms.
