The greening of France and Spain is very nice, let's go with that!

The brightening of 5km below sea level does a nice job of
highlighting detail along the mid atlantic ridge and the ocean
floor. The only tweak I'd make is that you lose some detail in
the shallower waters. compare:

it may be that one color map is good for global elevations, and
another (like 'terrain') better tuned for closer in coastal work.
(the greening of Spain might make other lower-lying areas more
boring)

I suppose for a good global land coverage math-based rules
you could do a combo multivariable thing where the color was
both a function of elevation and of latitude. (and even then
the latitude function wouldn't be linear, but a simple sinusoid
mimicking the wet/dry areas from the Hadley Cells would probably
get you something reasonable. maybe a nice rainy day project
for someone.
