[GRASS-dev] accessing VRT

I’m trying to look at, and even use, a VRT data set that I have. The WIKI suggests that this can be opened using r.external

I’ve tried to do that with current GRASS 7. And while the console says “Reading band 1 of 1…”, I see no progress bar or other evidence that something is happening. The total file is 1GB (I have another that is 10GB), and I’ve been waiting for half an hour (on a fast workstation) with nothing happening.

Is this just really really slow? Is it not working?

Prior to the “Reading band 1 of 1…” message, I have an error message:

ERROR 6: No translation for Mercator_Auxiliary_Sphere to
PROJ.4 format is known.

But I’m overriding the projection check.

I’ve opened this file in a couple seconds in QGIS, but I cannot query the values of any cells. It’s a nice image, but I can’t figure out how to access data.

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Michael
