Dear GRASS Community,
I want to thank you for nominating me to the PSC—it’s a big honor! I’m
currently a PhD student at the Czech Technical University in Prague, where I
focus on robust designs for ETL (Extract Transform Load) processes,
especially in relation to updating cadastral data and the publication of
dynamically updated vector tiles.
Regarding my GRASS journey, I started contributing to GRASS in 2020 while I
was a master’s student in geospatial studies, participating in the Google
Summer of Code program with a project on the New GRASS startup mechanism.
Since then, I’ve been passionate about making GRASS more accessible for
first-time users and friendlier for those already using it. Thanks to my
contributions and the support of the community, GRASS’s graphical user
interface has evolved significantly—the biggest improvements being the new
startup mechanism and the transition to a Single-Window layout. Recently, I'
ve also worked on other useful enhancements, like developing the History
panel for easier command management.
As I see GRASS from the perspective of a GUI developer focused on user
experience (UX) and as an advocate for ETL processes, my focus, if selected
for the PSC, would be the following:
*
Enhanced Integration of GRASS with ETL Pipelines
GRASS commands launched via the Python API currently face challenges when
used directly as an activity within diverse ETL workflows. This should be
simpler, and GRASS should be more widely promoted as a geoprocessing ETL
transformation tool.
*
Improved GRASS Documentation
I’d like to focus on enhancing the documentation, especially regarding
GRASS’s use within ETL tools like Apache Airflow. I also aim to help
convert the GRASS docs to a more modern markdown format.
*
GUI Enhancements and Maintenance
I’m open to leading a student on a GRASS GUI mini-project (e.g., on the
topic discussed in Issue #4237
(https://github.com/OSGeo/grass/issues/4237)) as part of my ongoing work
on GUI improvements and maintenance.
I believe that working on these areas can significantly improve the user
experience and help grow GRASS's user base.
Best,
Linda
