Dear GRASS Community,

I’m very honored to be nominated for the GRASS GIS PSC.

I’m a PhD student in Geospatial Analytics at North Carolina State
University and a member of the GeoForAll lab group. I’m passionate about
bringing open source geospatial tools to new audiences and new contexts,
especially for decision-making around complex environmental problems. I’ve
been a GRASS GIS user since 2017 and a contributor since 2021 when I
participated in Google Summer of Code to create the ‘grass.jupyter’
library. Through my studies, I’ve also had the opportunity to contribute to
and lead many GRASS GIS-based workshops and classes. It’s been amazing to
watch GRASS grow and change over the time I’ve been a part of the project
and I’m looking forward to contributing to the development of new features
and continuing to teach GRASS GIS in the future.

Should I be elected, I will advocate for:

   - The creation of streamlined GRASS GIS tutorial materials and features
that support the onboarding of new users and developers. As a relatively
recent user of GRASS GIS and workshop instructor, I know that smooth and
easy first impressions make for a lasting and growing user base.
   - The continued development of GRASS GIS as a flexible and capable
geoprocessing engine that works equally well on different operating systems
and through its many interfaces (Python API, Jupyter Integration, R API,
   Desktop GUI, Command Line).
   - The recent modernization efforts such as increased parallelization,
transitioning to new compilation and documentation systems, and creation of
   notebook-based tutorials and lessons.

If elected, I’m excited to continue focusing on building the GRASS
community and advocating for GRASS GIS as a powerful scientific
geoprocessing engine.

Thank you for your consideration,
Caitlin
