[GRASS-PSC] GRASS PSC candidate statement - Alen Mangafić

Dear GRASS community,

Thank you for the nomination.

I have been using GRASS for a long time in both research and professional
work. As a scientist and long-time open-source enthusiast, getting more
involved with GRASS has always felt quite organic to me. Over the years I
moved from being mainly a user to contributing code, developing new
functionality, teaching GRASS and representing the project at conferences
and community events.

As a PSC member, I would like to help strengthen GRASS both as a scientific
tool and as a community. I am a geek and passionate about geospatial
technologies, but the community part is what I see as most important. I
would like to work on making GRASS more visible and approachable to new
users, especially in research and education, while keeping its strong
scientific and analytical character.

I would also like to keep promoting GRASS at conferences, through tutorials
and workshops and by organizing and supporting community events and code
sprints. I think this kind of presence is important for bringing new people
into the project and keeping the community active.

I am also active in the wider OSGeo community and serve as secretary of
OSGeo Slovenia, so I would like to strengthen GRASS's presence within local
OSGeo communities and the wider open-source geospatial ecosystem.
