[STATSGRASS] rgdal - non-actual configure.in script

I've just installed gdal 1.4 beta, there is problem with rgdal poackage
in R - in cannot install
The problem is in configure.in script in rgdal package:
the test method is based on check if gdalinfo --version  is 1.3.x so 1.4
is not accepted.
I thing, due to forthcoming gdal 1.4 actualisation for  both gdal 1.3.x
and 1.4  is requied
