Within all of my stress and mistakes I just read this post now.
(working non-stop the last months here - I need to force myself to have a 
break)

I have to admit that I was pointed to MRPP by an ecologist :-). She is a 
brilliant scientist, working in the Silviculture Institute in the university 
of Freiburg.

I just explained her what I am trying to get out of the data and that I could 
not think of anything that would "compare" the within- with the between- 
heterogeneity at the same time.

So compliments to her ( also for being in trouble now with the crazy large 
number of permutations ;-) ).
