Exactly, because RStudio uses multiple layers of processes, often the 
processes do not inherit environments properly. Do use Rgui on Windows, 
not Rstudio. If the error repeats with Rgui, then we know more.

How was GRASS installed, via OSGeo4W or winGRASS?
