global/imagery data sets

1) I just recently acquired GRASS 4.0 and got it installed on my system. With it I got the 'global' and 'spearfish' data sets. The 'spearfish' set is fine, but I cannot access the 'global' data set. When I start GRASS and select the 'global' location and start the display monitor, I get the following messages:

	Mapset <david> in Location <global>
	GRASS-GRID > d.mon start=x0
	Graphics driver [x0] started
	ERROR: region for current mapset is invalid
	       <projection field missing>
	       run "g.region"
	Problem selecting x0. Will try once more
	ERROR: region for current mapset is invalid
	       <projection field missing>
	       run "g.region"
	GRASS-GRID > g.region
	ERROR: default region is not set
	GRASS-GRID > g.region -d
	ERROR: default region is not set
	GRASS-GRID > g.region region=default
	ERROR: region <default> not found
	GRASS-GRID > g.region -p
	ERROR: Invalid region: Illegal n-s resolution value
	GRASS-GRID > g.region -g
	ERROR: Invalid region: Illegal n-s resolution value

What am I doing wrong?

2) I recently saw that the 'imagery' data set was loaded to moon.cecer.army.mil and I downloaded it, but cannot figure out how to use it. Any tips?

Thanks in advance.
