    |When are we going to get a fixed version of i.tape.tm or a document
    |detailing the way to use dd and r.support?

We have someone here at CERL who is working on tape extraction
"tools." He has just completed an i.tape.spot module and
i.tape.tm for the new format is on his list of things to do.
However, you don't need instructions for running r.support,
you just have to understand where to put cell files and know how
many rows and columns, bytes per cell, etc. Then read the
"dd" manual and figure out how it can be used to extract data
from tapes. There is no one way to use "dd" - it is a very
general purpose program. But you have to know the tape formats
(what size tape blocks, what size logical records, what's
data and what's not, byte ordering etc). I don't know this
information for tm offhand, but it would be in the tape
description.
