non-visible rubber-band in v.digit

Hi.
This is one of those situtations that I would not believe had it not
happened to me.  Up until two days ago, when running the Zoom option
in v.digit, the new region rubber-band associated with the left cursor
button was visible on the screen.  Now, it is not visible, although
the command works fine.  Have I bashed a color table index somewhere?
Everything else seems to be working as before. I am using a SparcStation I
running openwindows 2. 
 
p.s.  I have tried everything I can think of including powering down the
machine.
