resolution of ppm output

Does anyone know if there is a way to increase the resolution of ppm output?  
I am painting our maps through the p.select, p.map "script file" procedure.  
The resolution of the vectors and text in the resultant paint.ppm file is very 
poor.  Am I stuck with this or is there a way of increasing the resolution?

Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated.
