|Some hints to my problems would be appreciated:

|1)  I ftped the grass4.0.cpio.Z file from the moon. Uncompress worked but
|    now I have difficulties to go further on my IBM RS6000 (AIX 3.1.5):
|    If I enter
|      cpio -iv <grass4.0.cpio
|    I get
|      Out of phase--get help
|      $

The proper options for cpio are -icd.

You need the c option since the cpio archive was written using the -c option.
This is a correction to what was posted earlier.

n islands not be(some) islands not being recognised. Is this a
|	problem in v.to.rast (the dig file appears to be fine)?
|	If so, can it be solved or circumvented?
|We temporarily solved the problem by putting islands in a separate vector
|map layer, rasterizing both layers, and patching them together again. But
|this becomes rather awkward if you have lots of nested islands (this was
|probably why they gave up on Humpty Dumpty).
