v.to.rast failure

v.to.rast may be the problem. Islands are handled by "size" -
the areas are sorted and the largest rasterized first then the smallest
thus allowing the smallest to overwrite and fill in on top of the
larger areas. Can you package up the vector file in question and put in
on moon under incoming so I can duplcate your problem and see if
v.to.rast is the culprit?

Does this only happen in lat-lon or does it happen in utm as well?
