xgen.example

I have been unable to ftp and unpack xgen.example successfully from the moon.
(I've had no trouble getting other files -- including xgen, and the complete
set of grass source files.)

I've got ftp set to type binary;  back home on my machine, I uncompress the
.Z file without any apparent problem, but when I try to cpio the remaining
file, I consistently get a message "Out of phase -- get help."

Has any one else had this problem?  Has anyone else used xgen.example?
