vectors from rasters

Polygon to vector (r.poly) is a much easier problem than lines to
vector (r.thin, r.line). r.poly should work fine. There are problems
with r.thin and r.line which I think are algorthmic. Anyone out there
care to contribute a robust raster to vector routine for linear features?
