24 Bit X-terminal error

We recently tried to run GRASS on a ShoGraphics X-terminal, model PS1.  This
is a 24 bit color device.  We received the following error message when
the d.mon command was executed:  

>    Graphics driver [x0] started
>    Please start graphics monitor <x0>.
>    X Error of failed request:  BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
>      Major opcode of failed request:  78 (X_CreateColormap)
>      Minor opcode of failed request:  0
>      Resource id in failed request:  0x27
>      Serial number of failed request:  225
>      Current serial number in output stream:  226
>    Error - Graphics monitor <x0> not running!
>    Problem selecting x0. Will try once more
>    Please start graphics monitor <x0>.
>    Error - Graphics monitor <x0> not running!

Any ideas?
