We have just gotten GRASS running on a DEC Alpha system. We will be testing
it over the next month or two, to make sure it's really working. I can tell
you this, though - it is amazingly fast. At this time we can't publish
specific numbers, but I will post those as soon as I can.
The only significant problems to date are with the portable vector format,
which will require some work to get right with the 64-bit architecture, and
some glitches with XDRIVER which we havn't pinned down yet. Once things
stabilize, I will post the modifications necessary to get GRASS compiled and
running.
We are using the "Cobra" deskside model, with 192MB of memory (and 8GB disk).
The operating system is OSF/1.
If you would like to do some serious testing (and have good internet
bandwidth) let me know directly and we'll try to get you some time on the
system. We are also interested in testing any other public domain software
related to GIS and/or database that you have - we hope to make this system
a testbed and archive for such tools.
