labeling contour lines in GRASS

r.contour does label the contours in the sense that it attaches the
elevation as the category number for each contour. It creates the
dig file and the dig_att file. You have to run v.support to get the
elevations "attached" to the lines.

|The r.contour utility is a nice addition.  But can anyone suggest how best
|to go the next step?

|We'd like to have some reasonable form of automated labeling for the contour
|lines generated by r.contour.  This is necessary for almost all contours we
|would create.  Does GRASS have the flexibility to do this, or should we plan
|to export the vector file and process with other software?
|
