unpacking binary release

We are trying to obtain GRASS 4.1 from the moon.  We successfully
ftp'd the 78 compressed files (binary-sun4static.cpio.Z.*).  When
we type "cat binary* | zcat | (cd [our destination directory]; cpio
-icdmv -) the hard drive seems to be active for about 10 minutes
(on an IPC) and the message "227454 blocks" is returned.  However,
nothing has actually been written.

Any ideas?
