running xgrass under Motif1.2/X11R5

Is anyone running xgrass under Motif1.2/X11R5 on SunOS 4.1.x?
I can't run the statically linked version as it cannot locate
the XKeysymDB which moved from $XHOME/lib to $XHOME/lib/X11
between R4 & R5.  And the one I compiled from scratch has
a weird defect in the "Add Items" box of the "Startup Dialog"
which prevents text entry from the keyboard unless the middle
mouse is held down.  (Very tricky if there is something already 
in the cut buffer).  Once the main xgrass menu is up, everything
else works fine.

Any ideas?
