v.di

I have just compiled the official release version of GRASS 4.1 and am
having a problem with v.digit. When I try to start digitizing a new
map, v.digit hangs up just before letting me enter my control points.
After the setup screen, I get:

and the shell freezes. A short dig_plus file is written. So far, I
have had to kill both v.digit and grass4.1 in order to recover-- this
has the unfortunate result of bringing down the window as well, with
the error message:

A command window has exited because its child exited.
Its child's process id was 14855 and it exited with return code 9.

We did not have this problem with GRASS 3.2, the last version that we
did any digitizing under. Nor did we seem to have it under 4.0 (the
digitizer checked out, but wasn't actually used).

We're running GRASS 4.1 on a Sun 3/60 for digitizing, SunOS 4.1.1, and
use a Calcomp 9500 digitizing tablet. There were no untoward compiler
messages when we compiled v.digit.

Any ideas?
