no text visible on graphics monitor

Hello all,

Whenever a text should be visible on the graphics monitor, it is not visible. The text color seems to have the same color as the background. e.g. if we run d.zoom and d.zoom asks to confirm the region, we have just the red boxes,with no text. d.rast.num does display the grid, but with no values in the grid. The same is true with programs like d.text.
So what should we change?
