Chris Emmerich had a question about the small values you get when using lat/lon data.
We had the sameproblem here and we figured out that grass will consider one degree is one meter. You will have the same problem if you want to define a labelsize in d.labels.
Then it is impossible to define a label in grounmeters, you'll need a very small value.
Others programs with the same problem are d.3d (heigth is to low) and r.volume (very small volumes).
