NAD CONVERSION

Has anybody been able to convert a NAD83 based map to a NAD27 based
map in GRASS?
We are using GRASS4.1 and when creating a new location, the user
is not prompted for the datum to place the new location in.  Because
the user is not prompted for this information is the datum established
by more than the individual maps themselves?
