Yes that is a problem that I have faced. I tested my patience by operating
at the original resolution and then working on it. There is another solution to
it and that may be implemented as follows (not a very neat one).

	1. Zoom until you are comfortable with the resolution.
	2. then do a d.what.rast > my_file, an dclick at the points that
	you wish to edit.
	3. Edit the file to meet the sites file requirement.
	4. do an s.in.ascii
	5. Either use s.menu or s.to.rast to create the map containing only
	the edited values.
	6. Now you have a map that you can use along with the original map.
	7. Use r.mapcalc to change that value.

I know that the above scheme is very very painfull but that is just another
solution.
