adding grid to map, not d.grid

I want to add a grid to a vector-map and create a new map of these two.
I tried to do this with v.digit, but I think its missing this option.
I want to use the grid to have registration-points for i.points
Who knows a way to create such a map ? (maybe there are also other 
possibilities)
