Real easy question

Hello,

I am working on grass development with another student who just mailed the 
list (Vector to Raster....).  We are trying to do something which seems like
the easiest thing in the grass world, but we can not find the commands in the
manual.  I want to convert an ascii text file of lat lon to a polygon or line
data layer.  This is probably the silliest question yet and I am embarrassed
to ask it, but for the life of me, I can not find what I am looking for.
