lat lon grid

[Grass 4.1]

Hello,

Is there a command that will create a lat lon grid on a grass map?
A previous student here created a nice grid on a Rhode Island grass
demo map but we discovered that he did it by hand, i.e. defining lat
lon points, converting to UTM, and creating a vector file from the 
UTM points.  Is there an easy way to do this yet?
