If that's true, then perhaps you have omitted setting the region to the
appropriate map and erasing the monitor. R.in.sunrast failed with us too,
but at least we got to see something - a messed up map.

As I said, the r.in.tiff code should be packed somewhere in your GRASS
source, under /src.contrib/SCS/r.tiff. You have to compile this code
before you can use it.

Again, XV can read both GIF and TIFF. The problem therefore lies with the
GRASS-import commands. Compile r.in.tiff and your troubles are over...
