Is anyone using GRASS in the Sacramento and San Juaquin Valleys of
California? We are hoping to impose on your generosity to obtain
mapsets for these areas. Primarily we are interested in soils, roads,
elevations, landuse, etc. for agricultural/pest management research.
Thanks in advance,

Bill:

We have some landuse mapsets, and are currently creating more. They are from our land use survey program, and each mapset is a county (usually). We curently have complete in GRASS:

1990 Kern County (valley floor portion)
1991 Kings County
1976 Legal Delta
1991 Legal Delta

We will soon have completed the following:

1988 San Joaquin County
1989 Yolo County
1986 Fresno County
1993 Colusa County
1993 Glenn County
1993 Sacramento County
1993 Tulare County

In 1995 we will have completed the following:

1994 Butte County
1994 Tehama County
1994 Solano County
1994 Placer County
1994 Fresno County

Also, maybe by the end of the year we might have 1988 Madera County in GRASS.

We use low elevation color slides to delineate land use boundaries on 7 1/2 minute quads. The whole county is field checked so accurate land use codes are placed on the maps. They are then digitized in AUTOCAD and fed into GRASS (Kenn Gardels helped set us in operation). From there, we process in GRASS to create a county wide raster map containing only unique land use codes. We can further aggregate these codes into major land uses also. Our minimum mapping unit is about 2.5 acres.

We can put these files on our anonymous FTP port. They would probably be tarred and compressed.
If your interested, let me know.
