Legends

I am trying to create a legend for my grass raster file.

Whether I try to create a legend through d.display or
directly with the d.legend command, grass (4.0) wants to
give me a legend with ~250 entries, rather than reflecting the
13 categories that I have.

This is what I am doing.

1) Create a raster file from an ascii file with r.in.ascii (values 0-243)
2) Using the r.reclass command, reclassify the categories
   so that there are 13 categories.  The r.cats command on this
   reclassified file shows me my categories have been set
   correctly.

Also, even when I create a raster file from an ascii file with only
13 different integers, I still get ~250 elements in my legend.

Does anyone know what the problem is?
