Backpropagation module for GRASS

Don't know about JW's work, but
I believe that Ranjan Muttiah (muttiah at ecn.purdue.edu)
and Xin Zhuang (zhuang at ecn.purdue.edu) also did some work
with neural nets and GRASS. Either might be able
to point you in the right direction.
