centroid linkage region growing

Has anyone implemented "Centroid Linkage Region Growing"
in GRASS? This is one approach to the sites-to-cell
problem in which regions of cells are "grown" by
assigning the same categories to cells whose site
means are "close" to others. The algorithm is cited
in:
  Haralick, R.M. and Shapiro, L.G. 1985. Image segmentation
  techniques. Computer Vision, Graphics, and Image Processing.
  29:100-1??, January.
It sounds real similar to the part of the ECHO image
segmentation algorithm, if you are familiar with
that work.

Just checking before I code something up unnecessarily...
